Cris,
     Ok, lilo failed, and I see RPM install only took 2 minutes and 22
seconds, which seems really really fast.  How good are you at bringing up
the node and doing a little scouting around?

     What I'd really like to know is:

     did disk partitioning partition the disk the way you requested?
     did all the rpms get installed?
     If everything else worked, why did the lilo command fail?

You basically have to log onto the node once the failure occurs, and mount
all the partitions as in your disk partition table.  So, mount /dev/hda6 as
/mnt, and all the other partitions,   /dev/hda7 as /mnt/usr, /dev/hda8 as
/mnt/var,  etc. Then you can do things like:

rpm -r /mnt -qa
lilo -r /mnt

and we should see what failed pretty quickly... Rich

Sun Dec  9 19:02:48 CST 2001: about to umount newly partitioned
filesystems!
