The list might be interest to learn about current, which is an open source implementation of the server http://www.biology.duke.edu/computer/unix/current/ I think this has a lot of application in the "cluster space", ie. set up your own current server for updating your cluster machines. Current is still under development. For instance, it lacks the facility for more than one 'channel' for per OS/archtecture type. So I could not, for instance, implement a 'base' RH7.2 channel and add on a 'local software' subchannel. (will come later) Current is also planning an SQL backend for the package database. The other possibility is to use the apt-get mechanism with an RPM based distro, which again is very interesting.
