Thank you Bernard. That was the problem. I mounted the /home directories
and the sync_users worked correctly.

Hmmm...  are the /home directories mounted correctly on your slave
nodes?

/home directory on the headnode needs to be mounted on all the cluster
nodes, for this to all work.
