Whats the modules.conf file (possibly modprobe.conf, but I think thats
FC2) on the head node and client node say?

The error would happen if the boot disk (or network boot) pulled up
the adapter right to pull down the image from the head node, but when
it booted from the hard disk the incorrect image file prevented eth0
from comming up.

If it was FC2 I would say it was the modprobe.conf bug, but I haven't
tested RH9 personally so I don't know why it is freaking out because I
think it worked fine on there.

Easiest way to fix it is to get one node working by hand, and make
those changes on the image files and then reclone the nodes. Or do a
fresh workstation install of RH9 and try again.
