Hi Carlos:

You need to have clean install of the OS before you can use a newer version of OSCAR (4.2.1) - looks like right now it's conflicting because you have some older packages installed from a previous version of OSCAR.

At a bare minimum, you can try to run the "start_over" script in /opt/oscar/scripts to "uninstall" the OSCAR installation - this script attempts to uninstall the packages and clean everything up, but it is not 100% clean.  The recommended way is a clean re-installing on the OS on the headnode, which is Fedora Core 4 for your case.

BTW, 4.2.1b5 should be ready tomorrow, so you might as well re-install the OS on the headnode, wait for b5 to be released and try it again.

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: RE: [Oscar-users] Error installing Oscar 4.2 on Fedora Core 3 (DepMan)

Hi everyone,

I'm also having problems during the installation of OSCAR. But I'm using different versions.

Because I was having troubles to install a new node because the SATA disks, Bernard suggest an upgrade to Fedora Core 4.

Doing so, I upgrade the main node of the cluster to FC4, downloaded the new version of OSCAR, the 4.2.1 (more precisely version 4.2.1b4r4223), and installed it:

tar zxf oscar-4.2.1b4r4223

cd /opt/oscar

./configure

make install

and everything went fine. The problems come out when I run the command:

install_cluster eth0

I get the following error:

"Oscar Wizard preparation script failed to complete at ./install_cluster line 212."

Next I saw the thread "Error installing Oscar 4.2 on Fedora Core 3 (DepMan)" and realized that the error is the same.

So I activated the flag DEBUG_UPDATE_RPMS (export DEBUG_UPDATE_RPMS=y) and run the "intall_cluster eth0" again to get more info, but I can’t pass from here

What can I do next?

In attached I send the log of the installation of the cluster.

Thanks,

Carlos

How fast is your machine and can you do a "top" (on the command prompt)

during the slowdown and figure out what process is chewing up CPU?

Cheers,

Bernard
