Hi Michael,

             Thanks for your suggestion,

My client node hard disks are getting detected now, after using Oscar 5.0 with OS as FC4. The image was downloaded to the client node and stars rebooting.

Here arises the problem: the client is not booting, giving the below errors and freezes there after:

Subject: Re: [Oscar-users] Oscar : Unable to boot the client with PXE boot

SIS a custom kernel which supports a narrower range of hardware than the stock linux kernel.  Dell Poweredge machines specifically seem to have problems with drives recognition.  I scanned the archives and saw a bunch of mails about them.  There seems to be a custom SIS kernel floating around out there but I don't know anything about that, so I am not going to recomend using it personally since I cant support it.

The 4.2.1 beta (which is quite stable) has a newer version of SIS and is available here:
http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/beta
It is a lot beter, hardware wise, than 4.2 I believe...

If that doesn't help, which it may not, you might want to try the Use Your Own Kernel functionality from the 5.0 branch which we are stabalizing for release now, but I believe is stable on RH4U4 (and so should work ok on CentOS 4.4).  The files for installing 5.0 are available here:

http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/filebrowser/49/branch

The documentation for the 5.0 branch is available here (you'll need it, there are significant infrastructure changes)

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/wiki/oscar:5.0:install_guide:ch1.1_overview

If you try using 5.0, please ask questions on the oscar-devel list instead of here, since it is still development code.

Subject: Oscar : Unable to boot the client with PXE boot

Hi

This is Kiran I have installed Oscar 4.2 in RHEL 4 (on Dell 2850 Power Edge). Iam facing a problem when PXE booting the client node.

I have tried all the recommended steps in http://oscar,openclustergroup.org/support. Finally Iam mailing you with the description of my Problem.

Here Iam facing a problem when PXE booting the oscar client node.  Node was able to get the image but could not able to complete the installation process resulting with a message

"… Your  autoinstall has failed….."  The  following is the description on the last page:

  • Step you are encountering problem : When PXE booting the client node. ( or  /scripts # sh oscarnode44.sh  or /scripts # sh oscarimage44.master)
  • oscarinstall.log (located in /opt/oscar) :  Attached
  • No third party packages are selected to install ,
  • Only the packages that are in the oscar are installed.
