There was a conversation with Mike and I had just worked that problem out. I
decided to upgrade my PII cluster that uses P6LX-A+ SCSI wide mobos. I
upgraded all of the nodes with 40Gb HDs and had to limit the LBA sectors in
order to keeping them from locking at POST. Once I did that, on reboot, I
would see the POST and IDE devices poll, but after that, I would just see
GRUB and a space and a blinking cursor.
This was fixed when I went to the BIOS and changed the addressing mode from
AUTO (which tried to use large addressing) to LBA. I vaguely remember years
back that GRUB had to use LBA with some older BIOSs and HDs larger than
8.4Gb.
I was also able to use the standard OSCAR Kernel build instead of the UYOK
option. So OSCAR 5.0 installed on Fedora FC5 and all of the nodes imaged
just fine. A good upgrade from RH9 with OSCAR 3.0.
Thanks.
