I went by the matrix given on the website - I have redhat enterprise 
server 5 installed on head node and all compute nodes.

I downloaded the distribution:
 oscar-repo-common-rpms-5.1b2.tar.gz  oscar-repo-rhel-5-i386-5.1b2.tar.gz

I unpacked those where the instructions stated they should be unpacked.  
There were rpm's missing and I brought those into place via the redhat 
cds that I obtained from redhat for enterprise server 5.
