Even if you are using the stable repository, you can manually download and install the package and give it a try. WARNING: the new version is still lacking testing, most certainly the code is still buggy. However, any report (bug or success) is welcome. To fix the reported problems, we implemented a caching mechanism for the detection of the format of online repositories. This avoids to try to get repositories' metadata file every time we want to install a package.
