Hello, Suse is not officially supported and yum will definitively need to be installed if you want to use OSCAR. Because Suse is not officially supported, the distro is not correctly detected (the error you had earlier). The devel doc actually give some details about how to support a new distro, you may want to refer to that.
Then, you say that you are using 6.1 and that you downloaded a 112MB, there is something wrong there since you cannot download oscar-6.1 as a normal tarball and use it as a standalone solution for an install (cf user documentation).
