Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Planning Unit (MAMPU), together with 48 programmers, has successfully set a new record, endorsed by the Malaysia Book of Records, for having conducted the longest OSS programming event. This event spanned 36 continuous hours from 10 pm, Oct 6 to 10 am, Oct 8 2010.
This grueling yet rewarding contest saw 16 teams of 3 developers each spend 36 consecutive hours developing a web application on “Office Information System”. All 48 contestants were enshrined with honour in Malaysia Book of Records as the record makers. This contest is a major event of Malaysia's premier annual OSS conference, Malaysia Government Open Source Software Conference (MyGOSSCON) 2010, which is scheduled to be held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 2-3 November. All contest winners will be announced and will receive their prizes from the Deputy Prime Minister, Y.A.B Tan Sri Datuk Muhiddyin Yassin during the Opening ceremony on 2 November. MAMPU strongly believes that this meaningful contest has not only energised team spirit but also stimulated the inherent energy of OSS that can be leveraged to spur creativity and innovation. It is the OSS features such as the availability of source code and collaborative development model that present excellent opportunities for learning, experimenting and innovating.
