Thanks for blogging on it. Good to hear that it is useful for you and your uncle.
In short-term, we do not have plan for mobile device. As we still have many unfinished tasks for desktop users. Plus, mobile devices have the shortcoming of being resource limited, which make most of the JStock features difficult to be ported over. About receiving SMS alert without having JStock keep running, I would suggest that your uncle, to subscribe paid service directly from established broking firms (like OSK188). As, they are financial backed firm, and able to provide a reliable stock SMS alert service (To have reliable stock SMS alert service, you need to have $$$ to buy reliable real-time stock data source and $$$ to buy SMS gateway service) We? We are just a bunch of poor programmer :p , and trying to squeeze out every single free resource we have. Hence, I would say the free SMS feature, will be value added to a group of users, who can afford the unreliability of SMS alert, and not willing to pay a single sen. But for a group of users who MUST have reliable SMS alert service, and have much $$$ to spend off, this feature might not be too useful for them. We always try to ensure when we add a new feature into JStock, it shall be value added to the end users. However, some feature need to be financial backed. So, if your uncle have some extra money to spend off, and are interested in one of the value added features, do encourage him to donate to this project too :p (Sorry, shameless way to ask for donation) http://jstock.sourceforge.net/faq.html#donation Thanks and Regards Yan Cheng Cheok On Aug 8, 11:29 pm, Raja Iskandar Shah <rajaiskand...@gmail.com> wrote: > posted a blog on jstock running on ubuntu > netbook.http://software.krimnet.com/jstock/jstock-a-malaysian-led-open-source... > > would you be able to do something similar on a mobile device ? my uncle > would be interested. you can have the alerts as a paid service, so that the > server will keep track of the movements, instead of the phone. the portfolio > needs to be on the mobile phone, so that he can view his portfolio at any > time without being connected and run an update to get the latest prices. > > i like the alert, it is very useful and easy to do. > > On Sat, Aug 8, 2009 at 10:19 AM, Raja Iskandar Shah <rajaiskand...@gmail.com > --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Join Open Source Developers Club Malaysia http://www.osdc.my/ Facebook Fan page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=98685301577 http://www.facebook.com/OSDC.my You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "OSDC.my Mailing List" group.
