Hi Nicolas,

Looks like a great presentation. I am so bummed out that I won't be at OSCON to see it (I'm going back to Malaysia for a holiday -- I grew up there and haven't been back since I was 13 so it's really a special trip! Otherwise I wouldn't have missed it for the world!) Congratulations again -- it's great to see these projects acting as ambassadors from the Flash community.

I just saw that Carlos mentioned this too but Flashout is not open source. In fact, this is quite serious as we are (mistakenly) popularizing FAME/FAMES as an open-source alternative when one of the components isn't.

On that front, I've updated the Flames IDE page with a preliminary plan:
http://osflash.org/doku.php?id=flames

I would like to see Flames IDE developed as a fully open-source alternative to FAME/FAMES. As part of this, we need an Application Panel, Library Panel and a Swf Panel (for displaying resulting HTML/SWF files.) Although Flashout is great (and thanks to Eugene for making it available for us for free), it (a) tries to do too many things at once (and thus has resulting in a mega-panel in Eclipse that doesn't really fit in with the Eclipse way of doing things) and (b) is not open-source. The App, Library and Swf panels will contain some of the functionality in Flashout and will also contain some new functionality but each will be a separate View in Eclipse.

Also, it would be a good idea for Flames to be released as an easy-to-install Eclipse installation as well as a plug-in.

I am going to set up separate projects for Application Panel, Library Panel and Swf Panel as well as add some preliminary designs to the Wiki for comment as soon as possible.

Who would be interested in working on these projects?

Thanks,
Aral

Hi lists,

I just posted the MTASC OSCON 2005 Slides on my weblog at
http://ncannasse.free.fr . I'm looking for people review and comments. It
will talk about MTASC history, technology, and OSFlash / FAMES.

Thanks,
Nicolas
