Also be sure to check out Brendan Eich's post in regards to the
definition of the ECMA 262 language standard, especially the comments
(search for the term Macromedia.) We are working very closely with them
in regards to defining the standard and making sure that ActionScript 3
complies with it.

Also, there are many languages that are based on ECMAScript. JScript
from Microsoft, JavaScript in most browsers, and ActionScript from
Adobe.

AS3 was defined together with ECMA.  Macromedia is part of the technical
working group in ECMA and it is our intent for AS3 to be ECMA standard
and that is on track.
