ok, i've tried this:

"C:/mtasc/mtasc.exe" > errors.txt

and made sure there was an error, and the text file IS created, but the output is blank.  Did I do that correctly?

MTASC just writes to standard out...so redirect it.

mtasc ... > foo.txt

This redirects the output of mtasc to a text file.
