I don't want to be the downsider here (I hope I am not), but I had  
similar problems when using multiple transparent PNG overlaid on top  
of each other ...
Let me explain, a transparent PNG has a 'transparent' alpha=0  
background, but it has shades of alpha where things are not 100%  
opaque or 0% opaque (ie: transparent)
all in all, when the alpha is not equal to 100% or 0%, I had the  
alphas being added together... which resulted in almost the same bug  
(as far as I can see) that Joao pointed out in his file ....
