Hi,

I am not too fussed about slightly OT questions - as I will ask questions related to open-source things relating to Flash as well as things about whether there are OS components, etc...

As you probably know I straddle a couple of lists, but I think comments about the community aspect are fairly pertinent. I think we all have our "camps" where we like to talk to people and after a while being on a list, we know that we can ask some questions vaguely related because we know a bit about the other people on the list... I will check through all the new threads and often find some useful snippet that comes in handy in future, so I like the security blanket of the list.

Sometimes someone blunders in all guns blazing and we either politely direct them elsewhere, help them out, shout at our monitors in horror at the blatant abuse of etiquette or just feel content in the knowledge that we are no longer young grasshoppers. I think the list still works reasonably well, but we do have to put up with human behaviour and general craziness once in a while. I don't think that there is too much rubbish traffic on the list although the amount of traffic seems to be waning a bit - maybe we need a knew framework / project / engine to get people excited about stuff. Whilst I am still upto my neck in design patterns, I don't feel I have much to contribute codewise, but I don't mind chipping in with help and advice for people on either list - it's the only place I have peers and betters in my field at the moment.

    Later.

OK, is it just me or has this list mostly (or at least partially)
changed focus/purpose from a Flash platform open source discussion and questions list to a general Flash/Flex/Actionscript question and answer list? Seems there are several on this list who don't understand what
this list was set up for. If everyone's cool with that, I am - but
there are plenty of other lists out there for these kind of questions. I
myself am guilty of responding to general flash questions here and
there, but I think if we respond to people, instead of diverting them to
a more appropriate list, they will keep coming back for more. Do we
want to allow this or no?

For those of you on this list who didn't realize this list was intended
for open source questions related to the Flash platform (hence the
name), no worries, but I would suggest you subscribe to one of the
following lists instead:

Flash_Tiger on Yahoo
Flexcoders on Yahoo
Flashcoders on chattyfig.figleaf.com
Flashnewbies on chattyfig.figleaf.com
Adobe forums, Flashkit, Actionscript.org, etc.

For the other people here interested in Open source flash topics, what
are your thoughts?
