Has anyone succeeded in using the debug Flash player with SWHX (on Windows)?

All I could find was this email:
  http://lists.motion-twin.com/pipermail/haxe/2007-May/009026.html

Here is what I tried. Download from here:
  http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html#fp9

The 2nd one: "Download the Windows Flash Player 9 Plugin
content debugger (for Netscape-compatible browsers) (EXE, 1.53 MB)"

Ran the installer, and it seems it puts "NPSWF32.dll" in
"c:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\". Right-click this, properties, and
I can see it is the debugger version. (Flash 9.0.159.0)

So, I copied over NPSWF32.dll to replace flashplayer.bin. But now it
crashes swhx.exe when I run it. If I put the old release flashplayer.bin
(non-debugger, flash 9.0.124.0) file back it is fine.

Debug one is 3.1Mb, normal is 2.8Mb, so it seems like I have the right file.

P.S. My client and I fairly sure we had this working 6-9 months ago;
could it be a problem with recent flash versions? Haxe is 1.19 and
haxelib list tells me:
  swhx 1.1.3
  systools 0.0.14

I've upgraded to shwx 1.2.0 and systools 0.0.16 and copied in these new
files to my project directory: swhx.ndll, swhx.exe, systools.ndll. But
still the same problem. And 9.0.124.0 non-debug version still works.

P.P.S. Yes, I've already asked on the haxe list, but got no reply. That
list is very active, and focussed on haxe, not swhx. So I guess most
people using swhx are not subscribed.
