If materials are video clips in various formats, you have to send them from the app (client) to the server, and then transcode them. Then load the clips in flv or h.264 from server, or from client machine if already in such formats and assuming client is using flashplayer10. Visual editing can be done with your app, but actual editing (mixing chunks) will be done server side.
