Robert: That system already exists. It is the google group http://groups.google.com/group/osg-users . It can work as a mailing list for those who want to get the e-mails, or as a forum for those who don't. Another advantage is that it will not fall when osg servers fail.
I guess currently that group is just a subscriber to the mailman server, but it should not be very hard to make it the master. Regards, -- A.
