Thanks... I'll take a look.
Because I don't really have a solid format, I can probably write my scripts to output in 
whatever format would be the easiest to work with in OpenSceneGraph.  Perhaps the 
".osg".  I'm just trying to understand the format.  Perhaps the VRML importer 
would be better.

Another solution could be to use scripting directly with OSG. Look into osgLua, osgPython, osgSWIG, ... which will allow you to create scripts that generate/manipulate OSG objects without writing and compiling C++ code.
