Hi Rick,

The GLUT examples and just that, you don't need to compile it unless you need it.

For GDAL, you only need it for osgTerrain and the GDAL plugin, if you don't need these features again you don't need to compile it.

All,

I hope you don't mind if I chime in on this thread.  I
noticed that there is a lot of talk about VC++ 2005.
I am trying to find a compiler solution that will
build OSG and all of its dependencies.  I have VC6,
and VC8 (Express).  I have also been futzing with
MinGW/MSYS.  I can build everything successfully with
VC8 except GLUT and GDAL.  They build but the
libraries have missing symbols when I link OSG against
them.  It seems like VC++7.1 is the best solution
because I have found project files for everything in
that format.  However, I don't have, nor do I want to
buy 7.1 at this time.

If any of you has VC8 project files, or even pre-built
binaries built with VC8 for GLUT and/or GDAL, I would
greatly appriciate it if you would post them.

Thanks in advance,
Rick
