What do you mean "apply" methods? Are they the methods in class nodevisitor?

The NodeVisitor is a fundamental tool for working with the OSG, and there examples of NodeVisitor all over the place, I'd recommend that you just do a search through the OSG source for instances of NodeVisitor to find examples of visitor and how they are used.
