Just thought I should follow up on all this.  I'm going to have to
call it quits on the Metaflight loader.  Currently there doesn't
appear to be proper infrastructure in OSG to build just a loader; I
will also need to build runtime terrain paging logic.  I've tried to
do this by subclassing existing OSG classes but I can't make it
work....

distances on my filenames to infinity.  Guess I should have thought of
