I think VS8 has some code metric tools built in, and I've used AMD's free CodeAnalyst on both AMD and non-AMD CPUs.

and EXCELLENT tool for telling you what's taking time in the actual OpenGL pipeline, if that's where your problem lies. Free time-limited eval version.
