For example, if I add a file to a makefile using gcc, I have to also add it to the project in Visual Studio. If premake does what it says, this process will be more simple. At the Highland Gathering we discussed build, and something CMLabs had done in this direction was to have a litte C# app convert .dsp's into sln/vcproj files.
