I just wanted to make sure that I understand the problem. Basically, if you're loading something using the viewer that is in database type setting (such as the one created by osgdem), then you can't use the viewer directly to display other objects (so I can't create other objects in the viewer?) ? So you pretty much have to add it to the database files, or the images beforehand? That's a bit of a downer.
You can load whatever you like, you can load just a paged database, two paged databases, paged databases and static models, but this is all up to you and how you create your scene graph.
