Now information alone can be "offensive"? Nashville must be run by some
really stupid folk.

Worker faces discipline for 'anti-Muslim' e-mail

Forwarded mock quiz that pokes fun at airport screening policy

A worker for the city of Nashville is in trouble for forwarding a

popular chain e-mail that employs a mock quiz to criticize U.S.

airport screening policies

Facing possible disciplinary action, Lori Lazo-Bell, an employee of

the city's finance department, has written a letter of apology for

forwarding the e-mail Jan. 13 to several people.

The quiz http://www.ropma.net/muzzie_quiz.htm is a multiple-choice

asking the taker to identify who was responsible for 12 well-known

terrorist attacks. In each case, with options such as Elvis and Mr.

Rogers, the answer obviously is "male extremist between the age of 17

and 40."

The city said the forwarding of the message violated its e-mail

policy barring the sending of offensive information, the Tennessean

newspaper reported.

The paper said one man who received it was outraged and sent a copy

to Mayor Bill Purcell's office and some Nashville news media.

Finance Director David Manning said Lazo-Bell used ''poor judgment''

in forwarding ''such an inappropriate message.''

''Unfortunately, it's not that unusual because people make bad

judgments sometimes about the way in which they use e-mail,'' Manning

told the paper. ''It happens everywhere, unfortunately. That's life.

The issue is what you learn from it and how you react from it.''

Manning said he has not made a decision about what action to take but

has called in the Human Resources Department and the Law Department

about disciplinary options.

Lazo-Bell, an interior designer for the Real Property division,

issued a written apology to Manning and her division supervisor, Ken

Maynard, and copied it to Purcell, the Tennessean reported.

She said she did not pay much attention to the content of the e-mail.

''It has never been my nature to stereotype groups,'' her letter

said, according to the paper. ''I have always and will always relate

to others as another human being without regard to age, color,

economic status or nationality.''

She closed saying: ''Please know I love my job with Metro and I love

the diversity of Nashville and I am truly sorry for putting all of

you in the position you are now in with the media.''
