Syrian Infiltrates Israel, Attacks IDF Outpost

April 15th, 2005 IDF SPOKESPERSON UPDATE
A Syrian man infiltrated the Israeli Syrian border, northeast of Kazerin,
this morning and approached an IDF outpost near the border. The
Syrian, who
was armed with a shotgun and dressed in a shirt emblazed with the
Palestinian flag, infiltrated the outpost and opened fire, aiming at the
outposts' gasoline tanks with the intent to cause them to explode. No
injuries or damages were reported.
The man was arrested by the soldiers and taken for questioning by security
forces. During his questioning the man stated that he is a Fatah
operative,
and that his intention had been to abduct an officer from the outpost and
kidnap him to Syria.
It should be noted that an incident of this type is unique and rare
for this
region, however the responsibility for the incident lies with Syria and it
must act to prevent similar incidents in the future.
