RIYADH, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Interior ministers of the Gulf Cooperation
Council (GCC) agreed Tuesday to intensify coordinationin the fight against
terrorism in response to instability in the region.

Instability in neighbors of the bloc will affect the six GCC countries,
said Bahrain Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulla al Khalifa.

Khalifa chaired a GCC interior ministers' meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday.

Facing the situation, the ministers believed their countries need to
adopt more powerful and effective measures against terrorism and to promote
intelligence exchange among them, said Khalifa in a statement.

The ministers reaffirmed their anti-terror stance and called for more
regional and international cooperation, said a communique released after the
meeting.

The ministers also called for a clear definition of terrorism so that
terrorism could be differentiated from rightful struggles against foreign
occupation.

The communique also identified drugs and money-laundering as
unprecedented challenges facing the six GCC countries. The ministers
stressed the need to enhance cooperation within the GCC and called for the
establishment of mechanisms against drugs and money-laundering.

The GCC is made up of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the
United Arab Emirates. Enditem
