IRAN CLAIMS ARREST OF 5,000 AL QAIDA AGENTS

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Iran has reported the arrest of nearly 5,000
operatives of Al Qaida.
Iranian officials said the detentions of Al Qaida agents began in 2002
and that most of them have been transferred to their native countries.
They said the detentions have been reported to the United Nations.
Iranian National Security Adviser Hassan Rowhani said his country has
not harbored senior Al Qaida operatives. Rowhani said an unspecified
number of operatives remain in detention and would be tried.
"I don't think any country could claim superiority over us [regarding
the war against Al Qaida]," Rowhani said during his visit this week to
Kuwait.
