BIANCO CONFIRMS HIGH TERRORIST ALERT

(AGI) - Rome, Italy, Aug 3 - "The joint intelligence report highlights
Italy's increased risk of being subject to terrorist attacks", says
parliamentary intelligence review committee chairman Enzo Bianco, in comment
to the latest joint intelligence report issue. "The report draws a link
between attacks in London and the level of terrorist threat in Italy, as
confirmed by latest jihad organisation statements". "Given the context I
think police and intelligence require due endorsement: their daily efforts
to reign in criminal activities, subversive attempts and terrorism is
crucial. "Anyone who thought Al Quaeda had had it was wrong. Terrorists have
long term objectives and Western countries are going to have to face up to
that for years to come". "We need to address the issue of creating effective
counter-terrorism legislation; one that needed to match a sizeable threat.
The Pisanu bill [...] is a first step to which all parties have contributed,
but there's clearly more that needs to be done. We have to strive for a
bipartisan agreement prior to close of the current legislature concerning a
security services overhaul [...] aimed at providing them with the tools and
the legislation necessary. It is baffling - two years down the line - that
such an overhaul should still be dragging on in parliament. The legislature
is almost at close and the months left should be used for necessary reforms.
It's about ensuring acceptable security standards to the country as a
whole". (AGI) -
