KARACHI: Niamat demands probe into terrorism

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 7: Former city Nazim Niamatullah Khan has said the past
four-year record of public service in Karachi was the best example
of good governance, which also has proved wrong the perception that
maulvis were not equipped with good governance qualities.

Mr Niamat, speaking at a reception hosted for him by Ahlian-i-
Liaquatabad on Saturday, pointed out that if his services were
compared to the services of ministers, advisers, senators and
legislators of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, his record of four
years was far better.

He said those who had ruled over Karachi for 15 years cannot mention
any project undertaken by them for the benefit of people.

On the other hand, during his period as city nazim, a number of
development projects were initiated and completed in the city
including flyovers, model parks, colleges, schools and main roads.

The former nazim said that formation of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal
and its governments in Balochistan, the NWFP and Karachi was ample
proof that the MMA was moving in the right direction.

Accusing the provincial government for attempting to popularize
western culture among youths, he hoped that the youth would reject
western culture.

He expressed confidence that in view of his services, Karachiites
would once again vote for candidates who stand for peace and
development.

Mr Niamat also demanded that a commission comprising all four
provinces be formed to probe into the history and causes of
terrorist activities in Karachi, adds PPI.
