FBI: Imam had links to terrorist groups 12:38 PM PST on Saturday, February 11, 2006 Associated Press TACOMA, Wash. - A federal agent says a Seattle-area mosque leader who faces deportation is also being investigated for possible ties to terrorist groups. Abrahim Sheikh Mohamed was arrested in November and accused of lying to obtain legal asylum status after coming to the United States in 2000. FBI Special Agent David Rubincam testified yesterday that federal agents believe Mohamed came to the country to help raise money for the Ogaden National Liberation Front. The group wants an independent state for ethnic Somalis in Ethiopia. Ribincam says confidential sources have said Mohamed has also claimed affiliation with a Somali group that the State Department has designated as a foreign terrorist organization. Mohamed is being held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. Yesterday's hearing was on whether he can be released on bond until his immigration status is determined. The hearing will continue on Monday. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11299428/site/newsweek/ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
