Militants' patrons yet to be identified PM also tells JS their international links are not confirmed Bdnews, Dhaka Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has said it cannot be said right now who were the patrons behind the militant activities in the country. "It is yet to be confirmed whether any international group is involved in it, as the probe is still going on," said the prime minister while replying to a supplementary question of BNP lawmaker Moazzem Hossain Alal in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. She said if the involvement of any international group with terrorist activities in the country is found, the government will make the whole world know about it. Although the lawmakers of main opposition Awami League were present in the House, they did not take part in the prime minister's question-answer session. The prime minister said the network of the militants has been broken. They will not be given any chance to achieve their goals even if they have any link with international group, she asserted. Khaleda said all members of the Majlish-e-Shura of JMB have already been arrested. When Jatiya Party lawmaker Hafizuddin Ahmed asked about the steps of the government in curbing terrorism, robbery and mugging on the roads, the prime minister claimed the country is now free of terrorism. While replying to another query of Jatiya Party (JP) lawmaker Mashiur Rahman Ranga over the success of prime minister's India visit, Khaleda said her India visit was very successful as two agreements, including a revised trade deal and an accord on preventing smuggling, were signed between the two countries. Besides, different issues, including demarcation of land boundary, exchange of enclaves, handing over the ownership of occupied lands, security issues, peaceful coexistence on the borders, reducing trade gap, water sharing of common rivers, push-in and road-rail communications between the two countries were discussed during her India visit. Replying to a supplementary question of Ranga, she said the discussion with the Indian government over water sharing of 54 common rivers was very fruitful. The Indian government gave assurance that they would not construct any embankment at Tipaimukh. But they informed that they would build a dam there to generate power. Answering to a supplementary question of BNP lawmaker Shamsul Alam Pramanik, she said many terrorists took shelter in neighbouring India due to the firm anti-terrorism stance of the government. She also said her government had sent the list of the terrorists to the Indian authorities. The Indian government assured that it would take actions against them. But the issue of bringing back the terrorists remained undecided, as no extradition treaty exists between the two countries, the prime minister said. While replying to another supplementary of Jamaat lawmaker Abu Sayed Md Sadat Hossain, the prime minister said Bangladesh government sought help of India in reducing trade gap between the two nations. Indian government assured Bangladesh of providing necessary assistance in creating market for Bangladeshi products in its southeastern states, she added. ------------------------ Yahoo!
