An unusually large purchase of prepaid phones has sparked an FBI investigation right here in South Texas. Disposable cell phones are cheap and nearly impossible to track. Investigators say terrorists have used same type of cell phones in the past. A large purchase of the phones in Brownsville has led the FBI on a search for two men with ties to San Antonio. The men reportedly bought an unusually large number of the phone in "Family Dollar" stores across Brownsville this week. Family Dollar only allows customers to buy two of these phones at a time. According to Brownsville police, a suspicious store manager found out the men were secretly buying the cell phones in bulk. The manager described the men as Middle Eastern. Investigators say that store manager saw the men tossing the cell phone packaging and memory chips in a dumpster. Police uncovered nearly 20 of the cell phone packages from that dumpster and immediately called the FBI. Investigators say the two men buying those cell phones were in a car registered in San Antonio." The FBI say they're investigating the purchase because individuals linked to terrorist groups have already tried buying large quantities of prepaid cell phones across Texas. Arrests for similar incidences have been made in Midland and Dallas during the past year. Police say they believe these Tracphones are so popular because the owners don't have to sign a contract or use a credit card to buy one. No arrests have been made in this case. We'll continue checking with the FBI to confirm any terrorist ties in this case. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
