Banned Tamil Tigers infiltrate Western bases of political power Walk into any left-leaning parliamentarians office from Toronto to Sydney you will find a Tamil behind the counter in one capacity or the other. These are nominally the volunteers placed in electoral offices of parliamentarians in Europe, Australia, Canada, and the USA to help in their election campaigns. Parliamentarians need helping hands not only to do electoral work but even to do office chores. The Tamil volunteers have become a regular feature in the offices of Western parliamentarians who welcome these "helpers". What the gullible parliamentarians do not know is that invariably the Tamils are plants of the Tamil Tigers. Their modus operandi is to plant Tamil "volunteers" in the offices of selected politicians who are promising candidates likely to win elections and to rise within the ranks of the party. Each handpicked parliamentarian is allocated a minimum of two "volunteers". These "volunteers" are on the pay roll of the Tamil Tigers until the successful politician absorbs them into his full-time or part-time staff. Of course, these Tamil "helpers" are under an oath of secrecy not to reveal their identity or their links to the Tamil Tigers. Tamil Tigers pick their "volunteers" from those competent in the language of the country and also on the basis of computer literacy. They are also trained to be very humble and obliging, willing to undertake any job given to them and work long hours. These qualifications endear them to the parliamentarians and eventually lead to a relationship in which the Tamil "volunteers" win the heart and minds of their political bosses. Working in the same office also enables them to win the ear of the parliamentarians. Of course, going about unobtrusively within the premises, picking up office gossip and keeping a close eye on whose coming in and who is going out, access to files and computer traffic provides ample opportunities to spy on practically every move of the parliamentarians. Their influence on these parliamentarians has worked successfully in penetrating left-wing centres (example: Labour Party of Australia). In time, the advantageous position they hold in these offices makes it easy for them to open the doors to introduce the key operators in the Tamil Tiger diaspora. These "volunteers" also become the conduit through which Tamil Tiger funds get channelled into the pockets of pro-LTTE parliamentarians. In some instances, the influence of these "volunteers" with their sob stories is so great that they are able to cut off access to anti-Tiger forces in the Western countries. Also Ms. Virginia Judge, parliamentarian of the New South Wales legislature, Australia, was in the eye of a huge controversy of taking money to the terrorists in the Vanni - an activity banned under international law. The long-term strategy of the LTTE is to infiltrate offices of Western parliamentarians to push their political objectives. This tactic has paid off to a considerable extent in Canada where the largest contingent of Tamil migrants is concentrated. Australian, Norwegian, and UK offices of parliamentarians are prominent places where the Tamil "volunteers" operate. It is estimated that in Canada the Tamil Tigers have assigned nearly 400 "volunteers" to work in political offices. Though most Western countries have banned the Tamil Tigers this backdoor entrance has provided easy access to the political and the decision-making process in Western corridors of power. It is reported that similar scheme operates in banks. Tamil Tiger agents working in banks have access to confidential accounts of Tamils in the diaspora. LTTE use bank record and salary remittance data and calculate the amounts to extort monies from Tamil expatriates living in countries such as Canada, UK and other European countries, Australia, and the USA. LTTE also maintain similar access to Internet Service Providers to spy on suspected individuals' emails. Tiger computer operators in these political offices who open e-mail and other correspondence are known to have deleted or destroyed anti-LTTE correspondence sent to Western parliamentarians. Anti-LTTE activists in these Western countries are warned to take precautions before sending e-mails to their parliamentarians.
