PESHAWAR: Islam best guarantor of HR, says minister

PESHAWAR, Dec 18: The regional directorate of the ministry of law,
justice and human rights organised a seminar here on Monday to mark the
World Human Rights Day. Provincial Minister for Zakat, Usher and Social
Welfare Hafiz Hashmat was the chief guest. The day was being celebrated
with the theme of "Development of Human Rights -- Friendly Culture is a
Must for Social fibre". Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed
the need for promoting the true spirit of Islam.

He said the denial of basic human rights to Muslims around the world was
sowing the seeds of terrorism. He said the life and work of the Holy
Prophet (PBUH) is a practical manifestation of the golden principles of
Islam.

"Human rights can ideally be secured if we live our lives according to
the Holy Quran and Sunnah," he added. Islam ensured the rights of all
members of the society, particularly women, children and the destitute.

He claimed that the provincial government had made progress in
rehabilitating beggars, destitute and drug addicts.Shah Zaman Afridi,
the director of the regional directorate, said the directorate had
successfully implemented a project of rehabilitating prisoners of the
Haripur Central Jail. He said the prisoners could acquire education up
to the graduation level. "Similar projects will be launched in the Bannu
Central Jail."---APP
