Israel Agrees To Free $100 Mln Frozen Funds To Palestine

(RTTNews) - In an effort that would revive hopes for resumption of peace
talks with Palestine after witnessing hostility and distrust for many
years, Israel had agreed to free $100 million to Palestine that was
frozen, reports AP. Israel had also promised to relax travel restrictions.

In a two-hour meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert assured to release the frozen funds. Both
sides felt that this was a first step towards rebuilding mutual trust
for fruitful cooperation and more meetings are in the pipeline.

Palestinian economy has come under pressure due to cutoff of funds
coupled with aid freeze from West after Hamas took the reigns of the
Palestinian government. West wanted Hamas to recognize Israel and put an
end to violence.

Travel restrictions would be eased by Israel by removing roadblocks in
the West Bank. Israel had also agreed to allow 500 trucks move through
the main cargo crossing between Gaza and Israel.
