PESHAWAR: Islam respects all religions: minister

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Dec 23: Provincial Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has said
that Islam teaches its followers to respect all the religions.
Therefore, a Muslim should show respect to all the prophets.

Addressing a function held on Saturday in connection with the Christmas
celebrations at the Mission Hospital here, the minister said all divine
religions had spread from a single source and many of their teachings
were common.

Lauding the services of the Mission Hospital, he said that welfare
bodies were sharing the load of the government and therefore it
considered such organisations as its partners. The minister said the
provincial government had allocated Rs100 million to assist charity
organisations working in the health sector.

The minister ordered a feasibility study over the proposed
rehabilitation of the hospital's eye ward. He said the project should be
made part of the next annual development plan.

Bishop of Peshawar Munawar Nauman Shah, Father S.P. Asghar, Erik Walter
Sarfaraz and hospital administrator Pervez Ghori also spoke on the
occasion while schoolchildren presented songs.

EDO HEALTH: Executive District Officer (health) Dr Mosem Khan has said
that adequate use of iodine could prevent disabilities in children. He
was addressing a function held at the Gulbahar School for Deaf and Blind
Children on Saturday.

Principal Ahmad Salim, Salt Processors Association president Taj
Mohammad and Project Coordinator Mohammad Kashif were also present.

A declamation contest was held among special children from various
schools, including the Gulbahar School for Deaf and Blind Children,
Yakatoot School for Special Children and School for Mentally Retarded
Children.

Speakers, with gestures and postures, highlighted the importance of
iodine for the human body. The EDO health gave away prizes to
participants of the contest.
