Hamas refutes reports on political document with European parties POL-MIDEAST-HAMAS-DOCUMENT Hamas refutes reports on political document with European parties GAZA, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Hamas has nothing to do with the reported political document between Palestinian and European parties, Ahmed Yussef, politican advisor to Palestinian Prime Minister and Hamas leader Ismail Hanya, said here on Sunday. The suggestions carried by the reported document had nothing to do with thought of Hamas or the Palestinian government. The document is a mere European phraseology, Yussef pointed out. The document has not been discussed by Hamas or the relevant government authorities, so it lacks the approval of Hamas and the Palestinian government, he added. Palestinian and Israeli press reported on Sunday that Yussef and Norwegian, Swiss and British researchers reached "the unofficial document" on September 10. The document was hailed as a basis for creating conducive conditions for ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It provides for Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank to a mutually acceptable border line, a five-year truce with Israel refraining from changing the status quo, and guaranteeing free movement for the Palestinians to and from East Jerusalem and other territories, according to the press reports. "Hamas government expressed since the moment it reached power its desire to have dialogue with the international community. In this context we met several European official and unofficial personages to exchange views on our cause," Yussef recalled. The truce offer is an old one, he noted, adding that it was first raised by late leader of Hamas Martyr Ahmed Yassin in 1988 and renewed by Hanya and Chief of Hamas Politburo Khaled Meshaal. "Truce, for us, does not imply the recognition of Israel at all, it is just a political offer in exchange for Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 border lines, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and the return of Palestinian refugees," he underscored. "As an elected government, we opened all doors for Arab, Muslim, European and even U.S. partners and tried all means to break the economic blockade on the Palestinian people," Yussef added.(end) zt. gb KUNA 242024 Dec 06NNNN +++ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
