LONDON, December 25 (IranMania) - Iran condemned certain moves in the
region aimed at fanning the flames of religious and tribal discord
particularly between Shi'ites and Sunnis, IRNA reported.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini made the
statement while speaking to reporters at his weekly press conference.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran strives to forge unity among Muslims
through diplomatic channels," he said.

Asked whether the government would wait for a Majlis decision to show a
reaction to a resolution passed by the UN Security Council Saturday
night against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, he said, The Islamic
Consultative Assembly (Majlis) is the sharp eye and wise mind of the nation.

"It will study and examine the issue precisely."

Hosseini noted that Majlis would make necessary decisions in this regard.

The spokesman said the recent stance adopted by the US President George
W Bush has been influenced by British policies, adding, "The US intends
to sow discord between the Iranian government and nation."

He said massive participation of the Iranian people in three elections
held on December 15 showed a bond between the nation and government.

Elections for members of the 4th Assembly of Experts and local councils
were held simultaneously in 63,377 polling stations across the country
on December 15.

The 7th Majlis also held its second by-elections in three
constituencies, Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat and Eslamshahr (taken as one),
Bam and Ahvaz.

Twenty-eight mlnvoters came out to vote. Turn-out was estimated at over
60 percent.

Pointing to the recent international conference held in Tehran on
Holocaust, Hosseini said it had a scientific and research identity.

The two-day International Conference to Review the Holocaust Global
Vision, was held in Tehran on December 11 in presence of 89
intellectuals and researchers from 30 countries.

He said the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of
the Iranian Foreign Ministry sent a general invitation to participants
of the conference, adding those who oppose or agree with Holocaust
attended the conference.

The spokesman expressed his felicitations on birth anniversary of
Christ, as messenger of peace and justice.
