6 imam held over fake marriage certs 27 Feb 2007 KOTA BARU: Six imam have been detained since last September, when the authorities launched a statewide crackdown on fake marriage certificate syndicates. The crackdown by the Kelantan Islamic Affairs Department (JHEAIK) followed its discovery of a syndicate headed by a former imam based in Pasir Putih, here. Sources said the six imam, aged above 40, were detained separately in Machang, Bachok and Pasir Putih. "Some of them were busy preparing marriage documents when JHEAIK officers arrested them," the sources said. It is learnt that three of the six imam have been charged in court. The investigations into the other three are still underway. When the first syndicate was busted, two of the imam’s assistants were also arrested.
