'Six killed' in Kandahar blasts

At least six men have been killed in two separate roadside bomb blasts in
the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, witnesses say.

The men were travelling in a vehicle when the first blast took place. The
second blast happened when police gathered at the wreckage.

Some of the men killed are believed to be Afghan security officers.

Kandahar has seen an increasing number of attacks by the Taleban. No group
has so far said it carried out the blasts.

A reporter with the AFP news agency at the scene said the bodies of the men
killed in the first explosion were hurled from the vehicle. The vehicle was
destroyed, he said.

Both the explosions seem to have been caused by remotely controlled bombs,
according to the news agency.

Last month, five people were killed after a roadside bomb blew up a United
Nations vehicle in Kandahar.

Four of the dead were reported to be Nepalese UN workers, the fifth an
Afghan driver.

Violence in Afghanistan has returned to levels not seen since the Taleban
were ousted in 2001.

More than 4,000 people were killed last year in fighting between militants
and international-led forces.
