<file:///C:/chlorine042807> Chlorine bombs a "real possibility" in the U.S.

 <file:///C:/chlorine042807>

28 April 2007: We've seen the use of chlorine bombs in Iraq against out
troops and coalition forces, and now we are seeing instructions posted to
Arabic language boards on how to use such bombs against targets inside the
United States. As a result, the Department of Homeland Security has issued
warnings to U.S. chemical plants and bomb squads to be on the lookout for
chlorine bombs here in the U.S.

Over the last few months, at least a half-dozen chlorine truck bombs were
used by terrorists to kill upwards of 100 people and injuring and sickening
hundreds of others. The toxic fumes released by the improvised chlorine
bombs have the capability to be quite lethal. One of the more significant
attacks in Iraq involving the use of a chlorine laden truck bomb took place
in Ramadi earlier this month, killing 27 people and injuring more than 3
dozen others with the fumes released from the bomb.

Combine this "new" tactic being used by Islamic terrorists in Iraq with the
recent increase in thefts of chlorine tanks in the U.S. According to law
enforcement sources, a number of recent thefts of 150 pound chlorine tanks,
particularly from water treatment plants in California, are causing concern
among officials. A number of advisories have been issued to law enforcement
agencies across the U.S. to monitor such thefts, and to increase security of
industries storing and using chlorine.
