We can't relax our scrutiny of Iran nuclear program

The Clarion-Ledger

Repeat after me America: "There were no weapons of mass destruction; there
are no weapons of mass destruction." This specific language will be used
again to psychologically anesthetize the American public. This language also
weakens our global initiative to ensure the safety of American cities from
weapons of mass destruction.

The phrase, "There are no weapons of mass destruction" is now embedded as
language and political lexicon which has sowed mistrust of our national
leadership. The phrase is now being used by the press corps to challenge the
recent declassified intelligence concerning Iran's top-secret nuclear
weapons program.

The latest National Intelligence Assessment being declassified is that
Iran's covert nuclear weapons program was halted in October of 2003. This is
confirmation of the Iranian weapons program using fissionable material. Our
recent declassified intelligence further states that weaponized, highly
enriched uranium by Iran from a covert operation continues. All we hear in
response is "there are no weapons of mass destruction."

Now is not the time to relax our scrutiny, economic sanctions and
intelligence gathering on the Iranians. We need a consistent position from
Iran giving assurance to halting its weaponization of uranium.
