On Oct. 29, two explosive-laden US-bound packages posted in Yemen were intercepted on cargo planes in the UK and Dubai. The bombs, containing the explosive PETN, were hidden in compromised printer toner cartridges and were powerful enough to have brought down an aircraft, officials said. "Forensic examination has indicated that if the device had activated it would have been at 10:30hrs BST [British Summer Time] on Friday, 29 October 2010," the Metropolitan Police Service said in statement Wednesday. "If the device had not been removed from the aircraft the activation could have occurred over the eastern seaboard of the US." US authorities received a tip about the explosives from Saudi Arabia the day before the packages were discovered. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for the foiled plot. The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said Monday it would ban "high risk" cargo, such as toner and ink cartridges weighing over 16 ounces, from all passenger flights. The TSA has also banned air cargo from Somalia and Yemen. <http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/british_police_eastern_yemen_mail\ _SqS8ED8meUrBGPqfr9RNXM?CMP=OTC-rss&FEEDNAME> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
