Former terror-finance sec says look at text books, religious materials as source of terrorism <http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/former-terror-finance-sec-sa ys-look-at-text-books-religious-materials-as-source-of-terrorism-recruitment /> recruitment Posted on April 6, 2011 by creeping It's the Koran and Hadith.stupid. The chief architect of the U.S. government's economic sanctions on Iran on Monday urged Americans to focus more attention on figuring out how young people are recruited into terrorism. "We need to focus on what's being taught to young people in the Gulf and Pakistan and other key places," said Stuart Levey, who stepped down as undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence in February. His remarks came during the Anti-Defamation League's annual leadership conference in Washington. Levey, who led Treasury's efforts to curb terrorist financing for seven years, said he was struck by the fact that "many of the young people that I was reading about in my intelligence book every morning, many of the young people who are joining al Qaeda or trying to figure out how to participate in terrorist organizations - they were probably adolecents on 9/11. "So how did that happen? And how can we stop that cycle? Because, unless the next generation of children is taught to reject hatred and violence, we're going to forever face the challenge of disrupting the next batch of terrorist facilitators ad infinitum." Levey called on the ADL, Congress and others to look at text books and religious materials in "key countries." Levey said foreign leaders could be receptive to such efforts because they care deeply about how they're perceived in the U.S. Don't hold the swiss-cheese-like economic sanctions against Iran against the guy, he has a point here.
