Eternal Jew-Hatred: An Interview About Antisemitism with Prof. Robert Wistrich by Jerry Gordon (April 2011) Antisemitism has coursed through Middle Eastern and Western history for nearly two millennia. It was the hatred of Jews nascent in Christian theology in the 4th Century that reached heights of racism during the long period from the Inquisition through the 20th Century until finally extinguished from the official Catholic Catechism during Nostre Aetate, <http://www.jcrelations.net/en/?item=2976> Vatican II in the mid-1960's. Religious writer James Carroll has chronicled this long history of official Church antisemitism in his work, Constantine <http://www.amazon.com/Constantines-Sword-Church-Jews-History/d> 's Sword: the Church and the Jews, A History. Scholar Bat Ye'or has demonstrated the long history of Islamic hatred and subjugation of all unbelievers (Jews, Christians and "polytheists") in her several studies of Islamic Jihad, beginning with The Dhimmi: Jews and Christians Under Islam <http://www.amazon.com/Dhimmi-Jews-Christians-Under-Islam/dp/08> in the 1980's and in more recent works. Dr. Andrew Bostom in his seminal work, <http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-Islamic-Antisemitism-Sacred-History/dp/1591025 540> The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism: From Sacred Texts to Solemn History has presented the historical evidence of Jew hatred that is at the core of doctrinal and historical Islam. Both Bat Ye'or and Bostom have documented evidence of Jew hatred from Islam's inception with Mohammed's brutal depopulation of Jewish centers in Arabia. The great waves of jihadist conquest of former Christian, Persian and Indian realms left pockets of Jews subject to dhimmi status and periodic pogroms including those that erupted in the 20th century in Casablanca, Tripoli, Alexandria, and Baghdad. However, Jew hatred of a more sinister nature in the West erupted in the 19th and 20th Centuries with the rise of European antisemitism as evident during the Dreyfuss Affair in France at the turn of the last century and the creation of the 'blood libel' in the notorious Czarist secret policy forgery, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. <http://www.adl.org/special_reports/protocols/protocols_intro.a> Even Henry Ford published more than half a million copies of the Protocols in America under the title of The Eternal Jew <http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-rroot540.html> , some of which persist to this day in Arabic translations, despite Ford's later disavowal of the forgery. The Protocols heavily influenced the rise of Nazism in Germany under Hitler culminating in the genocidal murder of six million European men, women and children in the gas chambers and crematoria of the death camps of the "final solution" adopted at the Berlin SS Wannsee Conference <http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/en/article.php%3FModuleId%3D1000...> in early 1942. Hitler welcomed notorious antisemitic Muslim leader, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, the Haj Amin al Husseini, <http://www.amazon.com/Jihad-Genocide-Studies-Religion-History/dp/0742562026 > as his house guest during WWII in Berlin. Al Husseini sponsored recruitment of Bosnian, Kosovar and Caucasian Muslim Waffen SS units and urged destruction of Jews in Nazi death camps to ensure that their didn't reach Jewish Palestine. Nazi era Der Sturmer <http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/faculty/streich3.htm> lurid cartoons of Jews still flourish in Arab Muslim publications, despite the Jewish state of Israel defamed as the "new Nazis" by Arab Muslims with regard to alleged mistreatment of the Palestinians. http://www.newenglishreview.org/files/100/Image/Antisemitism_Europe.GIF Notwithstanding the heinous history of the WWII Holocaust, antisemitism in the West and especially Muslim realms persists. In many areas it thrives, despite the absence of Jews because of primordial hatred of the Jew as the "Other." That is evident in recent studies conducted in the EU and polls of Muslims. Recently, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Germany reported persistent high levels of antisemitism <http://www.jta.org/news/article/2011/03/13/3086377/european-anti-semitism-x enophobia-linked-report-finds> among Germans, Hungarians and Poles. The <http://pewglobal.org/2008/09/17/unfavorable-views-of-jews-and-muslims-on-th e-increase-in-europe/> Pew Global Attitude Survey found increasing negative attitudes towards Jews in European countries like Spain, Poland, Russia and Germany. Pew Global Attitude Surveys of seven Muslim countries show a consistent level of antisemitism, a reflection of both cultural and Islamic doctrinal Jew hatred.
