"loughrey" What country and military branch (Army, Navy etc.) does the Military Family Resource Center represent?
I retired from the US military after 26 years of Naval Service. The last 12 years was spent in primarily a consultancy role for all branches of the US Department of Defense (all services including the civilian sector). My approach and follow-up for each client was different and success was critically dependent on knowing the organizational culture. The US Military's culture (Army, AF etc..) are the centerpiece of their being, well defined and strongly enforced. Some commonality exists across service cultures but the differences can be startling. Additionally there exists very strong subcultures within each individual service's unique culture. I never approached the Navy as I would the Army. Likewise as an example my approach to the Navy Submarine community (subculture) would be very different than an approach for the Navy's Surface or Aviation Communities (subcultures). This also applies to the Family aspect of each service culture. The Army's treatment and focus on Family Issues is very different than The Air Force's focus. Family members become service socialized and rally around the services values and cultural identity. Additionally, as a group they are a subculture of that particular service. I tend to believe OS would work wonderfully for any and all with the proper culturally competent pre and post consulting work. Holding the Space may be a personal challenge if one does not fully understand the organizational culture. ----- Original Message ----- From: "loughrey" <lough...@nbnet.nb.ca> To: <osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu> Sent: Tuesday, November 28, 2000 8:44 PM Subject: Open space for military > I have been contracted to do an open space for the Military Family resource > Centre at a nearby military base.
